We have considerable expertise in the field of engineering and physics, with a number of our staff being graduates in various engineering disciplines.
With the UK having such a strong engineering tradition, we have been helping clients obtain patent protection in the field from our inception, and this strength has grown with the growth of the firm.
Most of the development of the 20th century is now off-patent or nearing the end of patent protection (20 years since the patent was granted). However, industry and innovation does not rest. The more competitive an industry becomes, the more hard-fought are the battles over each incremental improvement. As a result, we are often called upon to monitor competitors' patent portfolios, identify potential strengths and weaknesses, give opinions on freedom to operate and pursue those who are infringing our clients' intellectual property rights.
Patent offices are issuing patents in the engineering field at a higher rate than ever, and are receptive to arguments that improvements, even those which on their face may look small, are worthy of patent protection.
We continue to be excited and surprised at the leaps and bounds our clients are making in pushing forward the bounds of engineering and manufacturing innovation.
Many of our team members have a background in engineering and advise clients across a wide range of engineering specialities, including:
