Richard is a senior associate in the firm’s Trade Mark and Litigation and Dispute Resolution groups. Richard advises clients on a range of intellectual property matters, both contentious and non-contentious, in the UK, EU and other foreign jurisdictions, with particular focus on trade mark and brand protection and enforcement, brand creation, IP strategy and trade mark portfolio management.
Richard has experience in matters relating to trade mark infringement and passing off, including litigation, opinion and advisory work. He has extensive experience of dealing with UK and EU Trade Mark oppositions, revocations and invalidity proceedings for clients across many sectors, including financial services, food and beverage, entertainment and consumer goods. Richard has also recently advised a client in its large scale trade mark filing programs, liaising closely with the client to protect its brand throughout the world.
Richard’s litigation experience includes dealing with proceedings in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, the Patents Court, and in the High Court using the Shorter Trials Scheme. He has also assisted clients in relation to appeals to the Court of Appeal, and has previous experience in general commercial litigation and financial services regulation.
Richard is also experienced in advising on and drafting IP-related commercial contracts, such as assignments, licenses and non-disclosure agreements.
Richard qualified as a solicitor in 2016 and was admitted as an Irish solicitor in 2018.
Richard also has a Masters degree in Physics and worked in scientific research in the nanotech field prior to converting to law.
