Gerrit is one of the few IP professionals in Germany who are admitted as Patent Attorney and Attorney at Law. He provides intellectual property advice on a wide range of technical areas and covers patents, trade marks, designs, copyright and competition law.
He is very experienced in filing and prosecuting patent applications, handling national and international litigation matters and representing clients before the responsible authorities and courts at national and European levels, including the General Court and the European Court of Justice. Among the recent cases is a successful petition for review by the Enlarged Board of Appeal (R5/19).
Gerrit joined Maucher Jenkins in 2014. Previously, he worked as a physicist in robotics and medical imaging. After he was awarded a PhD in physics from the University of Freiburg, Germany, he joined a patent law research group at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, led by Prof. Dr. Melullis, former Presiding Judge of the Patent Senate of the German Federal Court of Justice (BGH).
Gerrit has been ranked by Managing Intellectual Property as a Rising Star for 2022, 2023 and 2024.
During his research period, Gerrit has (co-)authored almost 50 scientific publications and during that time, he has co-invented several licensed innovations to the field of magnetic resonance imaging.
