Matthew grew up in Hong Kong and moved to the UK for his higher education, graduating from Christ’s College, University of Cambridge with first-class honours in Natural Sciences, and an MMath, specialising in Physics. He was subsequently awarded a full scholarship to study for a PhD in Particle Physics at Durham University, during which he had the opportunity to work in Germany.

 

Matthew joined Maucher Jenkins in 2013 and qualified both as a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney in 2017. He has much experience in prosecuting patent applications before the UKIPO, EPO and patent offices around the world, such as in the US, China and Japan. His work involves diverse subject-matter from telecommunications and energy distribution systems to consumer products, from X-ray scanners to air conditioners via racing cars. He is also experienced in drafting, searching, and managing the IP portfolios of clients large and small and advising them on IP strategies. He particularly enjoys working with clients from different countries and backgrounds, and is focused on meeting their individual needs.

Interests outside work:

 

In his spare time, Matthew enjoys classical music, literature and travelling, and has a keen interest in good Chinese and Japanese teas.
