Gerrit is one of the few IP professionals in Germany who are admitted as Patent Attorney and Attorney at Law. He provides intellectual property advice on a wide range of technical areas and covers patents, trade marks, designs, copyright, IT and competition law.
He is very experienced in filing and prosecuting patent applications as well as handling national and international litigation matters; representing clients before the responsible authorities and courts at national and European levels.
Gerrit holds a degree in physics as well as in law. For several years, he worked as a physicist in different technological areas such as medical imaging and robotics. In 2012, he was awarded a PhD in physics with the highest distinction (summa cum laude) from the University of Freiburg, Germany.
Gerrit joined Maucher Jenkins in 2014. Previously, he worked at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology with Prof. Dr. Melullis, former Presiding Judge of the Patent Senate of the German Federal Court of Justice (BGH).
Before he was admitted as a German lawyer in 2016 and as a German patent attorney in 2018, he gathered practical experience in his legal training in the Marketing Division of one of the world's largest suppliers to the automotive industry, in the Chamber for Commercial Matters at the District Court (Landgericht) in Freiburg, the Commercial Section of the Public Prosecution Department of Freiburg, and also at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office and the German Federal Patent Court.
During his research period, Gerrit has (co-)authored almost 50 scientific publications and during that time, he has co-invented several licensed innovations to the field of magnetic resonance imaging.
