Maucher Jenkins celebrates 90th anniversary

Date: 15 August 2023

It all began 90 years ago.

In 1933, Friedrich Thalmann founded a patent law firm in Denzlingen near Freiburg. In the 1960s, the firm moved to Freiburg and Wolfgang Maucher, who later gave the firm its name, joined the firm. After steady growth to more than 30 employees, the firm moved in 2006 to Urachstraße 23, opposite the old Wiehre railway station in Freiburg, where it is still located today.

In 1937, the law firm R.G.C. Jenkins & Co was founded in Chancery Lane, London, not far from the British Patent Office. The British firm also grew steadily over the decades and in 2003 opened an office in Munich, the seat of the European Patent Office.

In 2012, the two firms merged and Maucher Jenkins was born. We now have over 150 employees in offices in Freiburg, Basel, Munich, Kulmbach, London and Beijing, among others, where we are available to you regionally and represent you internationally.

Our team is growing steadily.

What started as a classical patent law firm, has developed more and more into a mixed firm of patent attorneys and attorneys-at-law in recent years.

Along with the firm's consistent expertise in the field of patent prosecution, the addition of attorney-at-law Dr. Michael Nielen in 2010 has expanded not only the trademark area, but also the entire area of contentious proceedings relating to patents, trademarks, designs, copyrights and competition law. This makes Maucher Jenkins today a full service law firm in the field of IP, where clients benefit from the close cooperation between patent attorneys and attorneys-at-law.

Currently, Dr. Michael Nielen's legal team in Freiburg and Munich consists of 7 attorneys-at-law and 3 research assistants. In addition, a further expansion of the legal department is planned for both Munich and Freiburg.

In the field of patent attorneys, Maucher Jenkins has also attached great importance to the promotion of young talent for many years. Currently, 6 patent attorney candidates are completing their training at the German offices of Maucher Jenkins, thus strengthening the broadly based team of patent attorneys at Maucher Jenkins.

We look back with pride on our 90-year history and are ready for the future.
