The Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) meets a delegation from Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA)

On the afternoon of September 16, 2019, a friendly meeting was held at the London office of CIPA between Julie Barrett, representative of CIPA International Liaison Committee, Handong Ran, Partner of the Maucher Jenkins and member of CIPA on one hand, and a CNIPA delegation led by Xu Cong, Deputy Director of the Patent Office, on the other.

Firstly, Ms Barrett shared with the delegation the basic information of CIPA, including its membership, operation, patent commercialization, and management of patent information. Deputy Director Xu Cong then introduced the CNIPA delegation. He emphasised the aim to strengthen the protection of China’s domestic intellectual property legislation and enforcement, to guide Chinese enterprises towards a better intellectual property strategy layout, and to improve the quality and the efficiency of patent application review.

During this meeting, the two parties conducted in-depth communication on intellectual property strategy and the management of intellectual property information, laying a foundation for future cooperation.
