IPO fee increases coming April 2026!
The UK Intellectual Property Office has announced that fees for trade marks, designs, and patents will rise from 1 April 2026 (subject to parliamentary approval).
This is the first increase since:
- Trade marks: 1998
- Designs: 2016
- Patents: 2018
Trade mark fees will go up by around 25% on average — for example, online application fees will rise from £170 to £205. The increases will affect application fees, renewal fees, applications for opposition proceedings, and everything else.
Current fees stay in place until April 2026, with full guidance due early next year. More details and fee tables are available on the UK IPO website.
If you’re considering filing or renewing rights, it could pay to act before April 2026.
