Overview:
Tom has worked in the patent profession since 2013 and joined Maucher Jenkins in 2025. Tom’s patent practice has spanned a range of fields, including telecommunications, processor architecture, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and medical technology.
He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications for clients of a range of sizes, from individual inventors to large startups and multinationals. His experience in building patent portfolios for startups has given him an understanding of key considerations involved in drafting applications to be filed across a number of different jurisdictions— including the US, Japan, China and Korea—and experience of patent prosecution before the patent offices in those jurisdictions.
A significant portion of Tom’s practice is before the EPO, and he has successfully represented clients at oral proceedings before the EPO, including in both examination proceedings and opposition proceedings.
Before entering the patent profession, Tom graduated from the University of Nottingham with a first class MSci degree in Physics with Medical Physics. His Medical Physics studies had a particular focus on imaging techniques, including MRI, PET, and MEG.
Interests outside work:
In his spare time, Tom enjoys running, hiking, and reading fiction and non-fiction.
