Becoming a Patent Attorney is to enter a respected profession that offers a rewarding mix of science, technology and law. The profession is particularly attractive to those wishing to retain their interest in science and technology while applying it more widely in a legal context.

Make no mistake, training to become a Patent Attorney is difficult, entailing a series of demanding examinations. Trainee Patent Attorney / Technical Assistant - (Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics)

We are accepting applications for Trainee Patent Attorney / Technical Assistant positions within Maucher Jenkins well established Patents team based in our Surrey office (or London office, if candidate prefers), with a background in Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Physics.

The right candidate will be a self-starter who likes working as part of a team; they will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to work effectively with our national and international client base; they will have strong time management and organisational skills; and will be able to demonstrate dedication to providing excellence to our clients.

Due to the high academic requirements for this opportunity, only graduates with at least upper second-class honours will be considered. Although not essential, research or industrial experience is preferred. We are also keen to hear from candidates with Chinese or German language skills.

All necessary training will be provided to lead to full qualification as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney. We offer a competitive salary and attractive bonus scheme.

Paralegal (Trade marks group, London)

We are looking for a talented Paralegal to join our highly regarded trade marks group in our London office.

This role will provide fee earning and administrative support to the firm’s trade mark attorneys and solicitors.  The role will encompass a range of duties including reporting successful registration of new trademarks and designs, reviewing trade mark advertisements, carrying out searches, requesting translations, reviewing official correspondence, completing court forms, carrying out domain name searches and preparing search reports and carrying out legal research.

The right candidate will be hard working, friendly, enthusiastic and able to work under pressure.  The right candidate will be a highly organised team player and an excellent communicator; they will have accomplished research skills, strong attention to detail and will be able to work using their own initiative.

Previous experience as a Paralegal working in professional services, ideally within the legal sector, is required.  IT skills, including knowledge of MS packages is essential for this role. CITMA, LPC, GDL or ILEX qualification would be advantageous.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who has already gained some experience working in a trade mark capacity role and is looking to progress their career to the next stage!
